Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher English Release Date—Get Excited Now!

Monster Rancher Ultra Kaiju

Koei Tecmo reintroduced us to the beloved Monster Rancher series with Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX last year on Steam, Switch, and the Apple App Store. And Bandai Namco is taking the classic franchise to the next level by allowing you to raise kaiju in Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher!

If you’re not familiar with the term, kaiju is a Japanese genre of films and television shows featuring giant monsters. Think Godzilla.

Tecmo (now Koei Tecmo) introduced the world to Monster Rancher in 1997. It spawned over a dozen video games and a successful anime that ran for 73 episodes in 1999 and 2000. Monster Rancher revolves around creating, raising, and training monsters so you and other ranchers can do battle.

Monster Rancher and kaiju are a perfect match because they’re trading in the unremarkably sized monsters for massive, city-destroying monsters.

The trailer shows us Gomora, Zetton, and Alien Baltan to start with. Koei Tecmo licensed them from the Ultraman franchise so we can expect many more from Ultraman. You’ll create kaiju from NFC-compatible cards and “discs” in Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher. Then you raise the kaiju by training them, having them compete with other kaiju, and helping the locals. Once you feel confident in the kaiju’s abilities, your kaiju can fight another kaiju in a turn-based battle format. And like past Monster Rancher games, you can combine one kaiju with another kaiju. This allows you to pass down attributes and discover new types of kaiju.
