NieR: Automata Switch Edition Announced and It Looks Terrific

NieR Automata Switch Edition Feature

Square Enix just confirmed the NieR: Automata Switch edition and you are in for a treat if you haven’t played a NieR game before. The Nintendo Direct showcase announced the title this week along with many other anticipated games like Persona 5, Portal, and Sonic Frontiers.

Square Enix released the original NieR: Automata on PlayStation 4 more than five years ago. Critics praised the original for its storytelling and design. But the music took the cake with multiple awards for Best Score. The game also received several Game of the Year nominations and awards. The PS4 version and PC version received “generally favorable reviews” on Metacritic while the Xbox One version received “universal acclaim”.

The NieR: Automata Switch edition will include all content from prior editions as well as exclusive costumes.

What is the NieR: Automata Switch Edition about?

NieR: Automata follows three androids: battle android 2B, scanner android 9S, and attacker android A2. The game takes place thousands of years into the future. Machine life forms inhabit the Earth and humans reside on the Moon. Androids are sent to Earth with the intention of retaking the planet so humans can move back home.

The beginning of the game puts you in the shoes of 2B. She is a battle android on a mission to take down an unidentified machine. The game feels like another action RPG. But within the first few hours, you are led to question whether or not you are on the right side. And once you start going down that rabbit hole, it’s hard to turn back. On top of that, once you complete the game, you find out that’s just the beginning because other storylines open up depending on which ending you completed.

Brace yourself for a game that makes you think about uncomfortable questions if you haven’t played a NieR game before. But don’t let that deter you from picking it up if you’re curious. I wasn’t aware of NieR: Automata until Skill Up introduced me to the weird-but-wonderful electronic experience with his review, “Nier: Automata Review | The Masterpiece You (Probably) Won’t Play”.

“Nier: Automata- I can’t recall ever being so captivated by a game. At least not in the last decade. I think maybe I’m going a little crazy. Regardless, I haven’t been able to string a single non-Nier related thought together this week as this review has all but consumed me. Even now, I am still deeply unhappy with it as I feel it does not do the game justice. But I know I wouldn’t be happy with anything I produce at this point, so my hope is that you enjoy this review more than I did, and if you hadn’t thought to purchase and play Nier, that you might revisit that decision.”
