Avatar 2 Finally Has Title and Release Date

Disney has finally announced the title and release date for Avatar 2. Avatar: The Way of Water will be released on December 16, 2022. This is the first of four sequels that James Cameron has planned for the Avatar franchise.
It’s been a while since we found out about the planned sequels to the original Avatar. It came out in 2009 and is still the top-grossing movie of all time.
Finally, 13 years after the original’s release, we have a title.
The new name was revealed at CinemaCon yesterday. The Walt Disney Studios panel announced that a teaser trailer for The Way of Water will be in theaters soon. You’ll just have to enjoy Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to see it!
Can’t wait!
People are keeping Avatar 2 secrets well
Cameron began filming The Way of Water in 2017. Those in the know have kept quiet about the details surrounding the film. But Cameron did release some photos from the set in December 2020 so we knew it would take place in the water.
What we don’t know is much about the plot beyond this tweet.
“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
Vague, but I’m not complaining. I like going into movies without knowing much about them.
Zoe Saldaña told People in an interview, “I can get choked up just talking about it, because I was able to see just 20 minutes of the second installment, right before the year ended, last year,” she said. “And I was speechless. I was moved to tears.”
The original moved me to tears. The beauty of Pandora, the awe-inspiring nature of the connection shared by the planet and life on it. The decision to abandon modernity for a life in tune with nature. I walked out of the theater amazed and satisfied, wanting to spend more time on Pandora. And I still have dreams of moving out into the woods when it’s time to settle down.
Final Thoughts
Cameron has been developing three additional sequels simultaneously with Avatar 2. The original release date was set for 2015 but was first pushed back to 2016. And then the film suffered more delays, then COVID happened.
So finally, we have December 16, 2022.
The Way of Water by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau. The film stars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, and Kate Winslet.
If you want to relive the magic, Disney will be re-releasing Avatar in theaters on September 23rd!
